Otham Conservation Area

Maidstone Borough Council will be looking to review the existing Appraisal and Conservation Area boundary within the next 3 months. Under the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990, they have a duty to regularly review from ‘time to time’.

The process is to review the existing documentation and undertake a walk around of the existing conservation area, recording any changes, confirming (or redefining) the special interest that warrants designation, and then providing an Addendum that notes any new recommendations, including, if appropriate, revising the management strategy. This Addendum and any up dated documents will then be presented to MBC's Planning Committee to seek re-adoption. If a boundary extension or alteration is required, this will be taken as a follow up action.

As part of the review process, there may be no requirement to undertake a public consultation, as they are only required to undertake this if they feel changes are required to either the boundary or to the Management Plan. However, please let us know if you have any comments or suggestions as the Borough has stated that they will be happy to consider them from the Parish Council, as part of this review.
